Do I smell a happy audience or is it Peking Duck?

Playing at the school
After taking the pictures of the Sandstone inlay cherry flute in my workshop I began reflecting.   And after some deep thought I realized how fortunate I am to be on this path of the wood flute.  This past week I played in front of a group of 3 to 4 year old’s.  At first I was apprehensive of this small gig.  But that didn't last long. I like to play with my eyes closed and really get deep into the spirit of the song.  But half way through of a melody I opened them a bit.  You should of seen those little eyes shining in amazement.  I performed without any reverb amps to give it the cool effect.  But they loved it anyway.

The last time I performed was at a Chinese bistro. You could smell the egg rolls and onions floating on the restaurant air.   We used a large reverb setup and where you sat and played you basically stared at the cook.  He would be there hacking up chicken and beef  throwing it on the grill and shouting out a waiter name when the order was ready.  The place was packed with people.  Every once in a while someone would stop and compliment you.  The cook liked  my playing and brought over a cold drink for me.

But by far the best audience was that clutch of young ones with their bright shining eyes.  Innocence is beautiful. They truly have a free spirit.

Peace, Kevin

  1. The food was good. I really like egg rolls with a hot sauce to dip them in.
